Admistrative Separations
Each service has its own regulations regarding administrative separation, and can separate members for a variety of reasons, including misconduct, homosexuality, or failure to maintain weight or PT standards. In some cases, you may only be entitled to write a statement regarding whether you should be retained in the military. In other circumstances, you may be entitled to appear before an administrative separation board before you can be separated. Whether you are entitled to a board depends on a variety of factors, including your rank, the reason for the separation, the characterization of discharge the service is seeking, and your time in service.
