Boards for Corrections of Military Records
(BCMR/BCNR)
Each military department has a Board for Corrections of Military (or Naval) Records, which has the authority to correct an error or remove an injustice in a servicemember’s military record. The Board members are civilians of the executive part of that military department. A claim for a correction must be filed within three years after discovery of the error or injustice, but the board can waive the three year requirement in the interest of justice. Although personal appearance before the Board is not required, you can ask the Board to permit you and your counsel to personally appear at your own expense.
